Tries to find general principles that apply to various situations rather than particular ones. How social factors affect most people regardless of personality. Appears like social psychology facts are common sense ( i could"ve figured that out on my own by observing my friends) But some common sense facts may be myths proven by scientific research. Social psychology relies on scientific method to test out theories. Common sense can be misleading in its simplicity. Found that people actually performed worse in the presence of others. Published the first 3 textbooks in social psych. Research on powerful influences groups exert on individual members. Showed it"s possible to study social processes like conformity and social influence in a scientific way. Behavior is a function of the interaction between the person and environment.
