WGSS 380A Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Cinyras, Odysseus

48 views3 pages

Document Summary

Throughout odysseus" narrative in book 10, all i can think about is how women are being described and portrayed. Circe is clearly a self-sufficient goddess, able to provide for herself without a man by her side. Odysseus" men ignore all forewarning signs and enter her home anyways, again not considering the different possible outcomes. Putting aside the possibility that they may not have been capable of considering the consequences, circe is viewed as this manipulator who establishes dominance over men. She only gives him the attention and acknowledgement because he had help in trying to overturn her spell. He claims that he can"t have sex with her unless she promises not to harm him or his men again. While reading myrrha"s story in ovid"s metamorphoses, i thought of the story in genesis in the bible where lot"s daughters both slept with their father.
