Document Summary

Explain different types of circulatory systems found in animals. Understand adaptations of the components of circulatory systems. List different types of respiratory systems in animals. Understand how respiratory systems function in these animals. Every cell in an animal must be able to obtain o2 and discard co2 and other wastes, which. 42. 1 overview of circulatory systems means a complex system is needed in large animals to exchange gases with the external environment. To allow all cells to exchange gases, some animals are adapted such that all cells of the animal directly contact the external environment and these animals do not require a proper circulatory system. These animals, such as cnidarians, generally have a gastrovascular cavity that distributes gases and nutrients throughout the body of the organisms through a branching network that contacts al the cells of the animal. Gases can thus undergo direct exchange with their environment via diffusion.
