Document Summary
Alc tutoring hours: 1:00 2:00pm in alc on tues & thurs. Materials: textbook: calculus: early transcendental functions, 4th edition, by smith and minton. Pencils (no ink pens): do not use ink pens for notes, homework, quizzes, or exams. Ti 30x or other instructor approved non-graphing scientific calculator. Course description: this is the first calculus course of a three-course sequence. The concept of a limit is introduced, and it is used to develop the concepts of continuity and the derivative. These are studied numerically, graphically, and analytically for a wide variety of elementary and transcendental functions. Applications of the derivative relating to curve sketching, related rates, and optimization are developed. Definite and indefinite integrals, the fundamental theorem of calculus, and applications of the integral are also introduced. Prerequisites: math 101 or 110 and math 111 or math 120, with a grade of c or better.
