Dyspnea : breathlessness that occurs when lungs are impaired. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd) : collection of chronic lung diseases where some form of obstruction interferes with a person"s ability to breathe. Lead to problems with inhalation and exhalation. Individuals with copd either smoke or have smoked in the past. Bronchitis : inflammation and eventual scarring of the lining in tubes that connect windpipe to lungs (bronchi) Less air able to flow from lungs. Attacks of wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing spasms. Allergies : hypersensitive reaction to a specific antigen or allergen in which the body produces antibodies to a normally harmless substance in the environment. Allergens can be swallowed, breathed, injected, or touched to cause a reaction. Histamine : a chemical that dilates blood vessels, increases mucous secretions, and produces other allergy symptoms.
