Allergies : hypersensitive reaction to a specific antigen or allergen in which the body produces antibodies to a normally harmless substance in the environment. Allergens can be swallowed, breathed, injected, or touched to cause a reaction. Histamine : a chemical that dilates blood vessels, increases mucous secretions, and produces other allergy symptoms.
