Cog theory: explains differences in personality as differences in the way people process information. Personal constructs: cognitive structures used to interpret and predict events. No two people use identical personal constructs (or organize them the same) Bipolar constructs: look at someone and classify them (tall-short, intelligent-unintelligent) Different ways of interpreting things (places, people, etc. ) result in differences in personality. Your own constructs: you might apply a different meaning (outgoing-melancholy vs outgoing-reserved) to someone"s behavior when meeting them. You use different constructs and organize them differently from other people. Psychotherapist who thought people"s problems came(caused) from deficits in their construct systems (not past traumatic experiences) Kelly said that anxiety is at the heart of psychological problems; we feel more anxiety when our personal constructs fail don"t make sense compared to events in our lives.
