Document Summary

With this technology, a lot comes from being able to make recombinant dna, combine dna from multiple organisms. Biotechnology began with the discovery of restriction enzymes. They are key to many of these different procedures. Recombinant dna technology set of molecular techniques for locating, isolating, altering, and studying dna segments. Allows the creation and manipulation of different dna sequences that come from different sources recombinant dna molecules. Restriction enzyme (restriction endonuclease) (re) recognizes specific nucleotide sequence, restriction site, and makes a double-strand cut. Restriction enzymes can be naturally made in bacteria as a defense mechanism. One enzyme recognizes a specific sequence on a virus that cuts up the dna/rna so that virus wont kill off the bacterial cell. These restriction sites are palindromic reads the same way 5" to 3". Restriction endonuclease cut at a specific site. Restriction enzymes don"t care what the source is. If they see their specific sequence they will cut.
