Family relationships are linked to mental health. There is a connection b/t poor family interaction patterns and mental illness (but the cause is not clear) Lot of evidence that there is a correlation between mental health and poor family communication patterns but we don"t know the direction or evidence that one causes the other. Family interaction patterns that occur in a variety of mental health problems: When families are disengaged, emotionally or physically separated, dealing with issues of mental health. Have this at the level of chaos (families changing all the time, no stability and lots of unpredictability, instability and chaos) Can also be too rigid but unable to deal with any change. Destructive types of conflict lead to more mental health issues over constructive types of conflict. Over time create issues of depressions and form isolation in families. This can also be a catalyst of drug use and alcohol addiction.
