There were 300 participants including executives and politicians. Few forces other than rap music could have organized an event like this. The summit signaled hip-hop as the definitive cultural movement of our generation. Some hip-hop artists use their voice in a positive manner, others simply strive to be the next air jordan or whatever popular youth trend. Chuck d describes hip-hop as the black cnn. Rap conveys elements of street culture, prison culture, and the new black youth culture. Although hip-hop has secured its place as a cultural movement its biggest challenge is the generational divide between hip-hoppers and the civil rights generation. They believe the vulgarity of the genre has portrayed the black community as a whole in a very negative light.
