Hispanics were oppressed and impoverished reduced to labor. Many chinese were indentured servants or coolies moving to islands. Chinese immigration increased during the gold rush. Came as free-laborers and some were successful. Soon whites started enacting discriminatory laws, being hostile to drive them from finding gold.
