Impact: does the story matter to readers, the bigger the consequences the bigger the story becomes. Proximity: local events will matter more than events in other citiesusually. Prominence: the more recognizable, the more curious the readers are. Conflict: dramatic confrontations, battles (politics, sports, rivalries) Emotions: respond to stories that are poignant, comical or inspiring.
