Pluralistic ignorance - within a group of individuals, each person believes his or her private attitudes, beliefs, or judgments are discrepant from the norm displayed by the public behavior or others. Each member of the group threfore public conforms to the norm but each have inner conflicts with it and believes they"re the only ones. Ppl tend to think that other ppl are more comfortable with hooking up than they are. For males, their comfort levels with drinking aligns more with the perceived norm over time. Found that ppl said that the average people in their sex would expect sex sooner than they would in a relationship. Pluralistic ignorance leads people to act according t othe norm rather thn their own beliefshas consequences. Men have more liberal attitudes towards sexwomen may experience unwanted advances bc men expect more sexual intimacy than women. Women may have experienced sexual assault but dont say that bc its become so normative.
