The responses of the men changed markedly. Asch on group pressure: perceptual judgment experiment. Six confederates gave incorrect answers to see if participant would agree even if he knew it was the incorrect answer. Milgra(cid:373)"s o(cid:271)edie(cid:374)(cid:272)e experi(cid:373)e(cid:374)t: teacher (participant) had to administer shocks when the student (was in the experiment) was wrong, 65% fully obeyed. Factors that breed obedience: vi(cid:272)ti(cid:373)"s dista(cid:374)(cid:272)e or deperso(cid:374)alizatio(cid:374), closeness and legitimacy of the authority, liberating effects of group influence (ex: firefighters). Group size: asch (1955) found as group size increased so did conformity, campbell and fairey (1989) found group size is important when judgments are easy, but size of group is unimportant when judgments are difficult (ambiguous).
