Document Summary

Chapter 6 review questions: explain how corpus delicti, mens rea, and actus rea relate. All crimes that are committed contain corpus delicti, which is the body of the crime, and this body has two parts, mens rea and actus rea. Mens rea actually means the guilty mind and refers to the mental state of the suspect. And actus rea pertains to the elements of physical acts that define a particular crime: give some examples of a lack of mens rea. A felony is a serious crime punishable by more than one-year imprisonment while a misdemeanor is a minor crime that carries a maximum confinement of up to one year: define homicide. Homicide is the killing of one human by another. This means that some deaths result from criminal means while others do not. A justifiable homicide involves the use of lethal force to prevent serious injury or death to another or to oneself.
