Urbanization also aided by the demographic transition (model) Chicago & manchester (shock cities) new kind of city: industrial city or a city that existed to assemble raw materials (manufacturing) Transportation networks heavily guided how cities developed: think about how highways really impacted how the usa and the west developed. Colonial cities: those created as commercial or administrative centers by colonial or imperial powers. Central place theory: tries to explain the tendency for central places to be organized in hierarchical systems by analyzing the relative size of towns & cities as a function of consumer behavior.
