Variables that influence interpersonal communication: the degree of perceived privateness. If you know your conversation will be made known to all, probably won"t disclose: stage. Appear to be confident intelligent, or appear to be a fool @ an interview. Different stages we"re on and roles we play vary. What stage you are on influences the nature of the communication. Frontstage: way you communicate out in formal public setting. Backstage: what you say when your back at your room. Ex: frontstage in restaurant = dining room good evening backstage in restaurant = kitchen. Ex: speaking at a classroom try to sound intelligent. Deep backstage: (interpersonal) way you communicate to yourself in private: history of previous interactions. If you have had good interactions w/other people, this will influence the way you interact w/others (more confident, + self image) ex: rejected man will be influenced (increasingly scared) in asking women out. Influence how we comm. in present and future.
