Document Summary
Normativity a series of conventions and norms that dominate our social structures. An embodied act; speech; a way of signifying an identitarian attachment. There is norms that people are labelled as deviant if they stray from. We are born, get married, have kids, die (all based on gender as well) We see status and wealth converging with gender to create a social hierarchy; reinforces oppression of one gender over another. Men were rational and logical and able to control their emotions, able to distance themselves and control their rage. Their ability to control their sexual urges; man who stayed home with his wife is weak. Women were prone to tears, more attached to family members, and more emotional. Female is a failed man because their reproductive organs have not descended. Men could fail morally but have already perfected the physical capabilities. Fun fact: in greece, homes were guarded by erect phalluses (penis)
