Stress response: person"s reaction to the demands: depends on the way we judge event and out capacity to react in an effective way, ex. Coping, heart rate, both positive and negative responses: 3 components: Physical: heart rate, perspiration, blood pressure, hyperventilation. Physiology of fight or flight sympathetic: quicken, heartbeat, release adrenaline, produces fear and arousal parasympathetic: helps return to normal after danger. Hpa: promotes physiological response to stress hypothalamus signals pituitary to release. Acth major stress hormone , produce arousal and fear response intensity depends on person, some are more sensitive, variability in state anxiety (higher peaks) Trait anxiety: individual"s general level of arousal and anxiety, what each person finds threatening is situation anxiety. Cognitive: different concentration, distort world view, exaggerate threat, remember incorrectly.
