Microprocessors: most important component of a device. Intel- world"s largest chipmaker: 8086 chip family- standard processor, x86, arm- energy efficient microprocessors for battery powered devices. Instruction cycle- process in which a computer executes a single instruction. Instruction pointer- holds the memory address of the first instruction once a program begins: performance is affected by, clock speed- sets pace for executing instructions.
