Organisation that believed in integration, working together with the white establishment, involved many black preachers. Prior to being named naacp it was known as the niagara movement. Formed partly in response to the practice of lynching and the 1908 race riot in springfield, A group of white liberals who were appalled at the racial violence issued a call for a meeting to discuss racial justice. Echoing the focus of du bois" niagara movement, the naacp"s stated goal was to secure for all people the rights guaranteed in the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. The naacp legal defense and educational fund, headed by marshall, secured the brown vs. Naacp also helped advance integration of the armed forces in 1948 as well as the passage of the civil rights acts of 1957, 1964 and 1968 and the voting rights act of 1965.
