Document Summary

I certify that the writing in this assignment is my individual work and is my intellectual property. It does not contain the ideas or writing of other individuals/authors. The experiment dealt with the following reaction: catechol+ o2 + catechol. Catechol is an organic molecule present in the vacuoles of various plants. When mixed with catechol oxidase, which is found in cell cytoplasms, the reaction produces benzoquinone which has a browning effect on the plant or fruit. Our specific experiment also tested the effect of varying ph levels on the concentration of benzoquinone produced from the reaction of catechol and catechol oxidase. Our null hypothesis is that there will be no effect on the concentration of benzoquinone by differing ph levels. Catechol will react with catechol oxidase in the same manner regardless of enzyme presence. Alternatively, differing ph levels will have an effect on the concentration of benzoquinone.
