Document Summary

Null hypothesis: the different concentrations of sucrose will have no effect on the potatoes mass, osmosis will not occur and there will be no net movement of water. Alternative hypothesis: the concentrations of sucrose will have varied effects on the potatoes mass, there will be a net movement of water either into or out of the cell. Figure caption: this graph represents the percent change in mass involving a change in sucrose concentration. The independent variable is the concentration of sucrose, and the effect of the concentration results percent change in mass, the dependent variable. The results show that the higher the concentration of sucrose is the more water will travel out of the cell, resulting in loss of mass. The more sucrose there is in the environment, the less the potato will weigh. These results back up the alternative hypothesis, which means that the concentrations of sucrose did actually have an effect on the mass of the potato.
