BIOL 1208 Chapter : Biology Lab Report
Document Summary
Adjusting the levels of nitrogen in a chlamydomonas population effecting the population growth, combined with seasonal nitrate levels in lsu"s four water sources. This experiment and collection of data was carried out by: Chlamydomonas is a photosynthetic green algae in kingdom plantae. As a result of being photosynthetic, these algae are able to produce chlorophyll. The growth of chlamydomonas is limited by components of the environment known as abiotic and biotic factors. In this experiment, we saw how varying concentrations of nitrogen effected the population growth of. Nitrate concentrations were compared to chlorophyll concentrations in order to determine if nitrate was a limiting component in the growth of chlamydomonas. Nitrate concentrations of the sites were found by conducting the nitrate test for each sample of water. Chlorophyll production was determined by performing the chlorophyll procedure indicated in the lab manual. Nitrate concentration and chlorophyll production were recorded during the fall, spring, and summer of years 2008 to 2012.
