Document Summary

I believe that the arctic national wildlife refuge (anwr) should remain untouched instead of being drilled for oil, because it isn"t worth it to ruin this delicate ecosystem for less than a year"s worth of crude oil. This reserve is the home of the porcupine caribou, and drilling would threaten this species as well as cutting off a main food source for the native alaskan tribes that live there. It would take place over the refuge"s 1,500,000 acres, negatively impacting infrastructure and creating a risk for oil spills. The projected amount of oil that would be extracted is 7. 7 billion barrels, and according to the eia the united states uses about 7 billion barrels a year. So for only a little over a year"s worth of energy, the refuge would be irrevocably damaged.
