Document Summary
Describe a typical night"s sleep cycle and then describe how your sleep deprivation impacts your ability to learn and your health. Sleep deprivation or loss of sleep is a real problem with the majority of people today. The restorative theory of sleep states that sleep is vital to the physical health of the human body within the deepest stages of sleep. During this stage of sleep, the human body grows and repairs itself. If we cannot reach this stage, our body cannot properly repair itself, and the result will be that we become sick or stay sick longer than we otherwise would. Scientists have studied the physiology of sleep and determined that individuals go through different phases of sleep during a regular sleep cycle. A sleep cycle runs on a rhythm known as a circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm is a daily sleep wake cycle that is controlled by the brain and influences the glandular system.
