Transcontinental railroad: government actively engaging in supporting transportation, business (cattle industry), farms and homesteads, railroad most important because other things cant occur without railroad, travel to west = dangerous, massive area, rugged plains, mountain chains. Finance corp. : charter/ license, incentive railroad companies get land. For every 1 mile of railroad get 10 square mile plots of land: 5 square miles on each side. Depends on terrain building on: plains flat, easier to build on, ,000 each mile, mountainous terrain, ,000 mile. Own money not going into building: absolutely no investment into building railroads but can make profit off it, 2nd bill.
