Document Summary

Macronutrient intake / control of body weight: macronutrients: Do they ultimately impact body weight: taste receptors. Mouth: sucrose, starch, maltodextrin, fatty acids, and amino acids. Gut: carbohydrates with glucose and lipid: thus far, research suggests receptors are sensing glucose, energy yielding macronutrients. Carbohydrate consumption per capita has been increasing since the early 1980"s. Most studies find a negative correlation between carbohydrate consumption and body weight. The form of carbohydrate consumed may be important: sugar. The amount of sugar consumed is negatively correlated with body weight. The more sugar consumed in sweetened drinks the higher the body weight. Is the consistency the cause: carbohydrates and glucose sensors. General behavioral data: blood glucose tends to drop before meals, food intake is stimulated after glucose deprivation, food intake is suppressed with glucose infusion, carbohydrate-rich foods are preferred after glucose deprivation. Macronutrient intake / control of body weight: glucose sensing mechanism related to feeding, complex carbohydrates.
