What is cardiovascular disease (cvd): broadly encompasses a range of diseases of the heart and blood vessels, leading cause of death. Right and left coronary artery which has to supply blood to heart has atherosclerosis. Kills more people than hypertension because leads to heart attacks: peripheral artery disease: pad. In the hand, the legs, etc. clots all over body: angina pectoris: chest pain. Caused by ischemia (lack of oxygen)=reduction in blood flow, so reduction in o2 supply: arrhythmias: irregular heart beat. Some fatal, life threatening: congestive heart failure: chf.
