Intrafusal fibers: contractile cells of the muscle spindle, wider in center & functions as length detector, muscles with fine control have lots of spindles, run parallel with extrafusal fibers, adjust sensitivity of muscle to stretch. Innervated by gamma motor units: muscle terminology, muscle cell = muscle fiber, cell membrane = sarcolemma, cytoplasm = sarcoplasm, modified er = sarcoplasmic reticulum.
