Adolescence: ages 11-18, puberty is a time a rapid physical maturation involving hormonal and bodily changes, majority of changes for girls happens at 11. 5 years old and m13. 5 years old for boys. Female changes: either breast grow first or pubic hair grows first, armpit hair, growth in height and widening or hips, 1st menstruation. Both genders: weight gain (9 for girls, 11 for boys, hormones- chemicals secreted by the endocrine glands and carried throughout the body. Adrenal: on top of the kidney, plays a role in behavior especially in males (stress). Gonads: sex glands, men is testes and women is ovaries. Key in development in changes in male and female. *both are present in both sexes just different amounts. Often due to gains in weight and body fat percentages. Especially present in females due to society"s general view of what is attractive. This tends to happen in the earlier teen years. Primary sex characteristics are essential to raising kids.
