This article addresses a growing concern about the removal of coffee plantations. By removing these coffee plantations rich wildlife habitat is being removed as well. It is not a full removal but more of a conversion from shade plantations to full sun plantations. Old plantations can house up to 2000 plants per hectare while a modern sun plantation can hold up to 7000 per hectare. The problem is that the new sun plantations do not provide the shade that migratory birds require for nesting. Birds that come from canada, n. america, and mexico and travel to central and s. The older plantations also seem to have more biodiversity than the new sun plantations. The reason for the conversion is simple: greed.
