Document Summary

Definition: an angle is the union of two rays with a common vertex. The rays are called the initial side and the terminal side of the angle. The initial side is rotated onto the terminal side. If the rotation is counterclockwise the angle has positive measure. If the rotation is clockwise, then negative measure. Definition: an angle is in standard position if it is drawn in the xy-plane with its vertex at the origin and its initial side on the positive x-axis. Definition: an angle of measure 1 degree is formed by rotating the initial side 1/360 of a complete revolution. Review acute, obtuse, quadrantal, right and straight angles. Example 1: draw the angle of 330 in standard position and state the quadrant in which the terminal side of the angle lies or the axis on which the terminal side lies. Definition: coterminal angles are angles in standard position having the same terminal side.
