The news of the world: an ethical scandal. When i began my search for an ethical dilemma in the news, i didn"t think i would become so interested in the topic i chose to write about. Last summer, i heard about the scandal surrounding rupert murdoch"s news corporation and the cellphone hacking of government officials, crime victims, and soldiers" families (linkoff 2011). However, at the time, it didn"t strike my interest, so i did no further research. Recently, i read an article published in the march. 13, 2012 online edition of the new york times about the arrest of rebekah brooks, the former chief executive of news international, murdoch"s british newspaper division. She was arrested with suspicion of obstruction of justice, but has not yet been formally charged (lyall 2012). Anyone with knowledge of the news corporation scandal might not find this new twist very surprising, but i had no idea of the depth of the empire"s dilemma.
