PHSC 1001 Chapter : Abstract Proteins
Document Summary
A genome is more or less a parts list for a human being, not the blueprints for that person. Proteomics, the study of proteins in the body, show what the genomes produce. Danny hillis presents the idea that proteomics can be used to spot and treat cancer on a personal and more efficient basis in the future than the contemporary painful treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. The proteins in a human body are the translators and correspondents for each cell in a body. Their job is to tell each cell what their function is, and how to perform that function. When someone gets cancer the conversation between the proteins in his or her cells has gone wrong. Hillis presents the idea that if there was a foolproof automated method to list and track the proteins of a person"s blood then that would give way to discovering how to get the faulty proteins back on track.
