Scenario 3: a researcher wants to account for both age related differences and age related changes in problem solving capabilities. He studies a group of 20 year olds and 40 year olds. In 5 years, he studies both groups again. Doesn"t compare individual to his/herself as he/she ages. Lasts a long amount of time, takes a lot of money and effort. Able to study age related changes in individuals. Studies are age related differences between generations and how an individual changes over time. Development of major organs and structures --> embryo. Critical periods times when certain environmental influences can affect the infant"s development. Fetal time period: 8 weeks-birth tremendous growth and development.
