Sociological perspective: a way to recognize patterns in social events and personal experiences. Micheal brown shooting: riots/protests in ferguson,mo, aug. 9 black male shot by white officer 6xs, places were looted. Katrina (aug. 2005: 75% blacks , 25% whites, women did much better tha men, race, gender, fear of crime, social network, poverty, poverty lower now than before. Sociology: the scientific study of social relationships, institutions (primary areas of life), and society: sociology is empirical, based on observation or experience rather than data. Sociology and common sense: marriage/divorce- declined, capitial punishment- much lower, muder rates, race + suicide- white males. Socio and other social sciences: ecomomics- money; how things are exchanged; reflect personal behavior ( eexchange theory - social action result exchange) *instead of money, goods, and services; socio exchange is love, trust, and power. Critical thinking- cognitive processes to analyze situation/ info. Anthropology- study of society ; socio study one aspect of society, rely on statistics (data)
