Chapter 7 outline: social stratification: social stratification- inequality of an entire society. Some societies are a lot of rich people, or a lot of poor people. Stratification is the most important concept in sociology because society is stratified not only by money, by gender, money, race, age, marital status, sexual orientation, etc. There is no completely equal society in the world. Stratification can be both good and bad (example: health care issues of society) People work hard, but people in the low end feel unhappy. Stratification is universal- communism tried (equal access to the wealth: lenski s historical view- he looked at the human society for about 10,000 years. He came up with 4 societies, we added a 5th. Hunting and gathering society but it is not working. Some people have more, some people have less. People putt fruit and seeds so they can come back and gather. Iron used for tools- domesticated animal can be used with the plow.
