Document Summary

Species -> paricular type of organism (group of) populaions whose members share characterisics and can freely breed to produce ofspring. Populaion -> group of individuals of given species that live in a paricular region at a given ime. Evoluion -> change over ime change in populaions of organisms from generaion to generaion. Natural selecion -> primary mechanism of evoluion inherited characterisics that enhance survival and reproducion are passed on; altering the geneic makeup of populaions throughout ime. The genes of beter-adapted individuals will outnumber the less well adapted because they will survive to produce more ofspring. Adapion -> throughout ime, characterisics and traits that led to beter reproducive success will evolve in the populaion. Adaptaion/adapive trait -> trait that promotes success. Mutaions -> accidental changes in dna that give rise to geneic variaion among individuals. Results as genes are mixed through sexual reproducion. Can help populaions adapt to changing environmental condiions.
