EDL 204 Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Liberal Democracy, Ideal Type, Corporatism
Document Summary
Ideology is a worldview that organizes the assumptions one makes about the world and constructs understanding of what constitutes normal and right . Ideology can be thought of as the seeking of questions with which to apply ready- made answers. Educators should approach philosophy as a way to help us ask and reason our way through philosophical questions. When applying for jobs, most want you to declare your philosophy of education; clear ideological commitment that draws on narratives, tropes, and ideographs. Depending on how a person uses the 5 educational philosophies, they can be considered educational philosophies, or educational ideologies. Ideologies can be thought of as different colored lenses. There is no such thing as a neutral teacher or unbiased classroom or objective curriculum . Task of an educator is not to pretend to be neutral, but to be fair to ideologies that contradict their own by presenting them as honestly as they can.
