Hb and hct: moderate (hb 7-10 g/dl) or severe (hb <7 g/dl, evaluate the following to provide cues to hematologic disorders i. skin (pallor, jaundice, petechiae) 2. 5% for adults newborn range: 1. 8% to 5. 8%, change to adult range in a few weeks absolute reticulocyte count = % reticulocytes x rbc count: normal: 25-75 x 109 /l. 5: myelophthisic infection (e. g. parvovirus b19) ii. (low) microcytic, hypochromic anemia = mcv < 80 fl; mchc < 32 g/dl iron deficiency thalassemia. The ells that are present are normal but there are too few to meet the demand for blood cells, and anemia develops. the reticulocyte count is low.
