PSY 2510 Chapter Notes - Chapter 14: The Emotions, Proprioception, Intentionality
Document Summary
Thought, feeling, emotion and sensation in gestalt therapy. Thoughts, feelings and emotions are not something to be feared or silenced in order to avoid pain. To really grow you have to feel, you have to let the emotion arise, observe it and then release it. The word sensation (from latin sensatio), although it has several meanings, interests us in the meaning that alludes to the impression produced by something and that is captured by the senses. Depending on the interpretation or meaning given to thoughts, they may conceptualize our experience or reality in one way or another, and even activate certain feelings. The word emotion comes from the latin emotio, which in turn derives from the verb emovere. It has the meanings of moving, stirring, as well as that of embarrassment and mood agitation. Emotions are the result of the evaluation of a situation by the body.
