Marital rape: raping of the wife by the husband. Most rapes in marriage involve physical violence or threat of it. Vaginal rapes account for less than half of marital rapes. Presumably, the more strongly the husband believes in the patriarchy, the more likely he is to rape his wife. Wife beating: 1/3 of all us married people assault their spouses every year and the other 2/3 assault their spouse at least once during their marriage. Wives are as likely, if not more likely, than their husbands to be offenders. This study had some issues in defining violent and nonviolent acts.
