Delivery is the key to a successful presentation. Gives three elements to a presentation: tone, makes it compelling. Characteristics of an effective delivery: conversational, more formal than conversations, conversational style, audience to feel you are speaking directly to them or her not to the whole group, establish and maintain eye contact, expressiveness. Vocal variety, facial expressions, upright posture: natural, varied, enhances the message. Impromptu- little or no time for advanced preparation: most common, guidelines. Prepare the conclusion: don"t rush, don"t apologize, focus on the topic, be brief, foresee speaking situations. Advantages: natural delivery, free from notes, adapt to audience, focus on your message. Drawbacks: anxious, less organized, manuscript- write out speech word for word and read directly from the manuscript. Drawbacks: lost their place in the speech, very stiff, lack vocal variety and physical variety, audience can tell, limits ability to adapt. Volume: loudness of the speaker"s voice (most important)
