COM 11400 Chapter 5: chapter 5
Document Summary
Most compelling factor of a presentation is simplicity. Deliver a message in a way that makes it easily accessible to the audience. Well-organized presentations are simple and easy to follow. Improved recall of what was presented: enhanced understanding of complex material. One essential elements in being clear is use of transitions: have strong impact on ability to recall content. If information is laid out in a clear pattern then you free up more of the audience"s brain to actually process the material. Clear organization also increases credibility: appear more prepared, makes speaker seem more knowledgeable. Makes difference between effective and ineffective presentation. Audience can"t go back and revisit the ideas. Don"t have the luxury of understanding the material at their own pace. Chunking: process of organizing small units of information into larger clusters. Sub-subpoints and subpoints into main points --> main points into the body. More manageable units help the audience remember more: you can show more information effectively.
