Dr. haifan lin - points out studying the inner workings of cells is often the fist step in making exciting biological studies. Microscopy i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi. vii. viii. First seen by robert hooke in 1665 as he looked through a microscope @ dead cells from bark of an oak tree. Light microscope - visible light is passed through the specimen and then through glass lenses. Light microscope magnify to about 1000 times the size. Resolution - measure of the clarity of the image. Electron microscope (em) - focuses a beam of electrons through the specimen or onto it"s surface. Scanning electron microscope (sem) - useful for detailed study of the topography of a specimen.
