Ricardo,12, has been overweight for most of his life. He dislikes the playground games that entertain most of his classmates during recess, preferring to stay indoors. He has relatively few friends and is not particularly happy with his lot in life. Many times ricardo has lost weight from dieting, but he"s always regained it quickly. Malnutrition: being small for one"s age because of inadequate nutrition. About 1/4 children younger than age 5 suffers from malnutrition in this world. Nearly half of the world"s undernourished children live in india, bangladesh, and pakistan. Approximately 15% of u. s. households have difficulty at some point in providing adequate food for all family members. Malnutrition during rapid periods of growth damages the brain inability to focus and learn. Malnourished children are listless and inactive, which makes parents give up something like reading a bed time story because children seem uninterested never give up.
