When talking about power bases, we refer to the strategies that leaders and managers apply to influence their subordinates. Power can be defined as the ability to exercise control over a person or group. People differ in the types of power they possess and how they use their power. Initially, french and raven identified five forms of power: legitimate, coercive, reward, expert and reference. Subsequently, raven and kruglanski added the power of information to the quintet of power bases. Hersey and blanchard contributed a seventh connection power . There is a close relationship between power and leadership. For its part, leadership is a process of influence on the behavior of others. Both power and leadership result in the effect that an individual exerts on the behavior of other people. Through influence, these people act in the way that individual wants. The formal power comes from the position and its position in the hierarchical structure of the organization.
