Document Summary

Biosphere - characteristics, layers, function and reserves of the world. The biosphere or biosphere is the layer of planet earth where life exists. Geographers and physicists use the term biosphere to describe our living world. All microbes, plants, and animals are found somewhere in this earth layer. Arguably, it is the sum of all ecosystems. The biosphere extends even to the upper areas of the atmosphere, where birds and insects can be found. It also reaches deep caves, both on land and at the bottom of the ocean. In summary, the biosphere extends to every place where life exists, of any kind, and is made up of biotic and abiotic elements: Biotic components: they are all living things, which depend on their inter-relationship and the relationship with the environment. Abiotic components: they are the elements that have no life, such as soil, air, water, minerals, light or rocks. They are very important for the life and development of biotic components.
