Document Summary
Peterson and seligman classification of human strengths and virtues. The work that peterson and seligman have led during the last decade began in 1999, when. Positive psychology was in its infancy and a group of researchers, promoted by both authors, set out to create a catalog of human strengths. This team of academics was very interested in finding a list of universal positive traits, which could be valid for all people regardless of their social and cultural environment. To do this, they began by analyzing the most representative religious, philosophical and cultural traditions, from china (confucianism and taoism), through south asia (buddhism and hinduism), to ancient greece and the judeo-christian and islamic traditions. In addition, other sources that provided very relevant information were analyzed: existing catalogs of virtues, psychological studies on positive traits, research on child and youth development, as well as the contributions of leading philosophers in this field.
