CM 1341 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Eye Contact
Document Summary
Principles of public speaking notes- chapter 2: getting started. A well-chosen topic is the first step to a successful speech. Some questions to ask yourself when picking a topic. Make a list about subjects that you already know something about and are interested in and narrow that list down to ones that you"d like to share with others. Narrow that list down even further to subjects that you think that your class wouldn"t know much about. Once you"ve narrowed down to one subject, create a list of subtopics. From this list of subtopics, ask yourself: How much time do i have to deliver this speech. After you answer these questions, you can focus on three subtopics that cluster around your main subject. General purpose is to help your listeners expand their knowledge, of an idea or concept or process, by providing new information or viewpoints. Listeners should leave your speech knowing more than they did previously.
